Ahead of the February 14 Valentine’s Day celebrations, the Oyo State government has emphasized strict adherence to safety guidelines to prevent tragedies.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, issued a statement on Wednesday, stressing the importance of involving security agencies such as the Police, Civil Defence, Amotekun, and Operation Burst in event planning. He also highlighted the need for proper health protocols and medical support at venues.
This directive follows the tragic December 2024 Christmas funfair stampede that claimed 35 lives due to poor crowd control.
Oyelade warned that failure to comply with safety measures will result in legal consequences, as the government aims to prevent a repeat of past disasters.
