The Vicar of “The Church Of The Holy Spirit, Awka; Venerable. Dr. Rex Kanu has called on Christians to shun evil and embrace the gospel of Christ.
He made the call as they joined thousands of other Anglican faithfuls to celebrate the 164th celebration of christianity in igbo land; which comes up on 27th July of every year.
The Clergy in his sermon thanked God for using Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther and other missionaries to liberate and abolish some evil traditions in igbo land like killing of twins, slavery, evil sacrifices, idol worship etc .
He admonished Christians to have the zeal and passion for the gospel as he cited the gospel of Christ according to Luke 9:1-6.
In his sermon, he said that the founders of church missionary society (CMS) brought good tidings to igbo land in July 27th 1857. CMS brought schools, hospitals, fruits, clothing etc…
He advised Christians to shun evil like killings, kidnapping. He also told them to invest in propagating the gospel thereby using their money to sponsor evangelism, crusades and other religious programs…
Highlights of the occasion were singing of Anniversary anthem by the congregation, CMS anniversary thanksgiving and other side attractions.
