A national lockdown has been imposed on Zimbabwe following a surge in Covid-19 cases. To that effect, only essential services like hospitals, pharmacies and supermarkets are to remain operational for the next 30 days. Gatherings have also been reduced to a maximum of 30 people and a curfew is in place from 6pm to 6am.
Earlier, Zimbabwean Government had eased the national lockdown imposed in March to contain the spread of Covid-19 due to the economic crunches.
According to reports, Vice President and Health Minister Constantino Chiwega, the huge spike in cases over the festive season has almost doubled the number of infections recorded throughout the year.
As it is now, Covid-19 cases doubled in two months from 8,374 at the start of November to 14,084. A total of 369 virus related deaths have also been recorded in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic.
