At least 17 people were killed and 59 injured onThursday (13th of January) after an explosion in western Ghana.
According to the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the incident occurred after a truck carrying explosives collided with a motorcycle around noon in Apiate, near the city of Bogoso some 300 kilometres west of the capital, Accra.
Preliminary police investigations showed the truck was a mining vehicle carrying explosives.
The security officials meanwhile have urged surrounding villages to open their schools and churches to accommodate any additional casualties
In a tweet on the incident, President Nana Akufo-Addo described the incident as truly sad, unfortunate as it caused loss of lives and destruction of properties.
