55 yr-old-man Bags Life Sentence For Rape Of Minor

A 55 year-old man, Yau Ibrahim is to spend the rest of his life in a Correctional center after he was found guilty by a Minna Senior Magistrate court Angwan daji for raping a 6year old girl.
The Presiding Senior Magistrate Hajiya Hafsat Abdullahi Bawa Wuse who passed the sentence on the convict, said the crime is not only barbaric, but has also put an indelible stigma on the little girl.
Yau Ibrahim was arraigned before the court on 15 August 2023, for having unlawful sexual intercourse with a six years old girl and also infected her with Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) .
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Aliyu Yakubu Kuta, called two witnesses who testified before the trial court.
The prosecuting witness One and Two gave vivid pictures of how the convict sexually abused the little girl.
Two exhibits were tendered during the trial which include the confessional statement of the convict and medical report from Rayuwal sexual reference center, Police clinic, in Minna and the police Prosecutor closed his case.
The Presiding Senior Magistrate Hafsat Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, found the guilty on one count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child punishable under section 26 (2) of the child right law 2021 as amended and she convicted him accordingly.
The convict pleaded for leniency, but the Senior Magistrate asserted that considering the magnitude of the offense committed by the convict, he deserves no leniency from the court.
”The victim’s health status as confessed by the convict himself who confessed as contained in the medical report and the stigma the victim will carry for life as a result of the convict action.
”The court hereby sentenced Ibrahim Yau to imprisonment for life for the offense of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child punishable under 2021 as amended” she ruled.
The senior Magistrate Hafsat Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, is the first Magistrate court to invoke the full wrath of life jail on rapists in Niger state.
