Barely 24 hours after the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu pleaded “not guilty” to charges levelled against him by the federal government, the Government accused him of using “Radio Biafra” to instigate violence that led to the death of at least 175 security personnel and several other citizens,.
The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami made the allegation at a news briefing in Abuja on Friday, where he shared some details of an investigative report into the activities of Kanu.
According to Malami, Kanu also used the online station to incite members of the group to commit violent attacks on security formations, Properties of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and those of private citizens.
Adding that that 164 police stations and formations were attacked by IPOB/ESN leading to the death of 128 policemen and injury to 144 others, with 628 vehicles destroyed, he said 396 firearms and 17,738 ammunition were also carted away during the attacks.
Malami further blamed members of IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) for Tuesday’s attack on traditional rulers in Imo State, adding that they also played a role in the violence recorded during the EndSARS protests in 2020.
He went on to call on foreign collaborators and supporters of Kanu to desist from the act, while commending those that already blacklisted him.
On financiers of Igboho:
Meanwhile, the AGF, Malami also at the briefing on Friday revealed an alleged sponsor of self-acclaimed Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.
According to him, Igboho, is a Director and signatory to a certain, “Adesun International Concept Limited” which was registered on 23rd April 2010 and is linked to 43 bank accounts in nine banks.
Adding that his major financier was found to be a federal lawmaker in the National Assembly, Malami noted that large sums of money was exchanged between Igboho and his financiers between 2013 and 2021 through “Adesun International Concept Ltd accounts”
Malami furture revealed that investigations showed that “Adesun International Concept Ltd” also transferred the sum of N12,750,000 to “Abbal Bako & Sons.” – a company being investigated alongside its promoter Abdullahi Umar Usman in an ongoing joint terrorist financing investigation.
Abdullahi Umar Usman is by way of financial transaction connected to Surajo Abubakar Muhammad – who was sentenced to life imprisonment in UAE on charges of financing terrorist group, Boko Haram.
Igboho’s Response:
Meanwhile, Sunday Igboho has reacted to the claims by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami that he was being sponsored by a National Assembly member, stating that the Government is pushing a false narrative.
In a statement by his counsel, Chief Yomi Aliu, Igboho stressed that he is a car dealer that trades in the name of “Adesun International” and not a terrorist, challenging Malami to mention the particular lawmaker he claimed to be his major financer.
