In the early hours on Saturday 14th May 2022 the Agulu People Union executives led by Chief Oliver Afamefuna, the Ex President general, and woman leader, took part in a sanitation exercise in Agulu, evacuating refuse which has almost blocked the road along Awka- Ekwulobia road Agulu.
Speaking to our newsmen the President General of Agulu people’s Union, Chief Oliver Afamefuna , explained the danger and the health hazard of the refuse as it can cause accidents along the road and urged all the people of Agulu and people living in Agulu to help the Union and Anambra state by putting up a refuse bin in their houses and pleaded with the state government to provide a bigger waste bin for the refuse so to help evacuate the waste.
He described the present administration of Prof Charles Soludo as cleaning printed governor ad he has flagged off Operation Clean Your Environment all over Anambra.
Chief Oliver pointed at the need to evacuate the waste as it blocks a major road leading to many state, while also pleading with the government to recruit more hands to the Anambra state waste management agency, (ASWMA).
The publicity Secretary of agulu people’s union Chinazo Onwuazombe appealed to Agulu people to stop dumping refuse at that point and asked them to provide a bin for themselves in their houses and bring them out if due for evacuation. He said that this is their own effort to help the government in making sure Anambra state is clean.
According to the immediate Past President General of Agulu Chief Andy Orakwelu, who described the dump as accident-prone and a health hazard, commended his predecessor for working diligently to evacuate the refuse and asked Ndi Agulu and Anambra, in general, to stop creating more work for the union and Anambra state as he also stepped out to support the work.
Also, the Agulu women leader Oriaku Okafor-Okisi Chinyere condemned the act of dumping refuse on the major road, while commending the union for their relentless work and pleaded with Ndi Agulu to stop dumping refuse close to the environment where people stay as regards the safety of the people. She also urged the people of Agulu to emulate the western in putting up small bins in their houses as the union has promised to send people that will be coming to take them in the meantime.
Sir Eric Maduagwu speaking to a journalist said the union is trying to save their people from inhaling polluted air that the refuse has caused and called for concern, especially to the motorists that are not familiar with the road as the refuse has blocked the expressway and to make sure the people of Agulu and Ndi Anambra live safety and healthy life,
