Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Foster Ihejiofor has charged beneficiaries of the FGN/IFAD-VCDP farm inputs under COVID-19 Rural Poor Stimulus Facility Grant to put them to work according to the guidance of the extension workers.
Dr Ihejiofor, who gave the charge during the official flag-off of the event at Ohita Community in Ogbaru Local Government Area for the eight participating council areas in Anambra State, warned them not to contaminate themselves with the chemicals as they have toxic effects on human beings.
Speaking on sustainable agriculture, Commissioner Ihejiofor encouraged them to adopt regenerative agriculture, which according to him is dependent on nutrient recycling where the leftover of the crops they planted will fertilize the soil.
While describing regenerative agriculture as the best form of organic agriculture because it is eco-friendly and profitable, Commissioner Ihejiofor challenged Anambra State farmers to get ready, read, research and arm selves with the language and methods as the state will in the next farming session, mainstream regenerative agriculture for the health of everyone and for the good of Ndi Anambra and Nigerians in general.
In her speech, the National Programme Coordinator, FGN/IFAD VCDP, Dr Fatima Aliyu, specifically state that the two hundred and sixty-two vulnerable farmers in Anambra State, profiled for the grant are entitled to eight thousand, five hundred kilograms of Certified Rice Seeds, four hundred and sixty bags of NPK fertilizer, two hundred and thirty bags of Urea fertilizer, two hundred and fifty liters of non-selective herbicides and two hundred and fifty liters of selective herbicides.
For Anambra State Programme Coordinator, FGN/IFAD VCDP, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha, the VCDP will continue to support the beneficiaries with extension services and monitoring to ensure better yields.
