Anambra State ministry of transport has shown that the Ministry is not only concerned with activities on the roads as road transportation is one of the components of the ministry of transport.
It will also be recalled that on assumption of duty as Commisioner for transport, Anambra State, Hon Afam Mbanefo said he has come not only to consolidate peaceful atmosphere that will aid transport businesses ,but more importantly, to develope all components of transport ministry as directed by His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano.
To that effect, on the 15th December, 2020 ,the Ministry, having finished with necessary administrative appraisal on waterways proposal, has moved to the field ,inspected the proposed site for the construction of water jetties and initiation of ferry services .
The inspection took team ministry of transport led by Hon Commissioner, Hon Afam Mbanefo from Onitsha River port to Otuocha waterfront in preparation for the commencement of Ferry transportation services which will be intra and inter States.
The development of the waterways when completed will help to decongest road transportation, expecially in Onitsha, help the transportation of Agricultural produce from Agro based riverine communities to the cities, both intra and inter states.
Talking about developing Anambra waterways ,Hon Mbanefo said that they are through with all paper work and have moved to the field as the project has come to stay. He reiterated that the project is part of the plan to decongest road transport, as the project when completed will boost food transportation and its availability in the cities ,among many other benefits. He expressed gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano for his support and Fatherly guide.
Among those in attendance were Political appointees, Chris Okeke ,HOD Waterways, Represenatives of the contruction Company etc .
