The Anambra state police have arrested a suspect enforcing an “illegal” sit-at-home order along the Oba flyover in Idemili South Local Government Area. According to a statement by state police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was part of a gang of four armed men attempting to enforce the sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra for May 30.
The arrest followed intelligence reports indicating that armed men on motorbikes were regrouping to enforce the sit-at-home order. Police operatives intercepted the gang, resulting in the arrest of one suspect, while the other three escaped with bullet injuries.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Obono Itam, has urged the police to continue their efforts against criminal elements and prevent them from causing harm in the state. The police command also warned against spreading threats related to the sit-at-home order, as it could disrupt public peace.
The command reassured citizens that it is aware of the secessionist activities and urged everyone to ignore such propaganda. They emphasized that security forces are fully mobilized to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
The sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra was declared in commemoration of Biafra Heroes Day, honoring those who died during the Civil War.
