Anambra Police Command Vows To Arrest Persons Who Attacked Ifeanyi Ubah’s Convoy
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police Echeng Echeng, says they are stepping up strategies on crimes fighting and prevention especially these Ember Months.
The Police Commissioner also asserted that there is nothing like unknown gunmen, pointing out that hoodlums wielding illegal firearms and terrorising innocent citizens are visible human beings living amongst the people but have chosen to constitute threats to public safety.
He admonished the citizens to go about their normal lawful activities, saying that the Police would ensure that security of lives and property are guaranteed these Ember Months and always.
The Police Commissioner who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, explained that the police is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the peace being enjoyed in Anambra state is not truncated but sustained.
According to him, “We are rejigging strategies. We are talking to the locals to avail us information to help us in our operations. I can tell you that the successes we have recorded so far are as a result of Ndi-Anambra providing us useful intelligence.
“Although there was conspiracy of silence initially, it is no longer like that because people are willing to talk to us and we assure them of confidentiality of their identities.
“Gone are the days people talk about unknown gunmen because there is absolutely nothing like unknown gunmen. Recently we have paraded a lot of suspects; why we do that is to also show members of the public that the information they gave us are actually feasible.
“Those alleged unknown gunmen are not invincible. They are seen and they are known. And they are apprehended too.”
On the recent attack on Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, Echeng said it was indeed an unfortunate incident as the Police lost two officers in the attack, together with two civilians attached to Ifeanyi Ubah and one passerby caught by stray bullets.
The Police Commissioner maintained that Ifeanyi Ubah’s ordeal showed the price security agencies pay to guarantee peace in the state.
He said investigations were still ongoing to clamp down on the assassin, disclosing that Police had recovered two AK47 rifles belonging to the two fallen officers as well as the vehicles too.
He added that in due time, the police would unmask the identities of the persons who attempted to take Ifeanyi Ubah’s life.
