Anambra State Special Scholarship Scheme has started bearing fruits as beneficiaries of the programme continue to excel in their various schools.
Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha made the observation during a review meeting with education secretaries in her office at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, to assess success of the scheme.
She disclosed that over 107 indigent pupils and students from rural communities in Anambra benefited from the programme in September, 2019.
The commissioner noted that although the children were drawn from rural areas across the state, but have impressively performed well during examinations
Omenugha while emphasizing the need to find out why some of them performed well in other subjects but poorly in Mathematics, thanked the parents for releasing their children to return to school as scheduled.
Education Secretary, Anambra West Local Government Area (LGA), Mr Joseph Udeoba commended the commissioner for keeping them abreast with the scholarship programme.
According to him this would enable them keep the parents informed and get feedback from them.
Desk Officer, Anambra Special Scholarship Scheme, Mr Michael Onwube said he had contacted the parents, promising that beneficiaries who were not yet in school would return.
