Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Obiano to direct Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs and any other relevant agency to rehabilitate the Ogba cave at Owerre- Ezukala in Orumba South Council Area for tourism purposes.
The House passed the resolution following a motion of urgent public importance sponsored effect by the member representing Orumba South Constituency, Honourable Emma Nwafor, during plenary.Honourable Nwafor described tourism as one of the major revenue sources for most developed nations, pointing out that the cave can attract huge revenue to the State if developed. Contributing, the member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Honourable Nonso Okafor, noted the cave has the potential to become a tourist site for the world if developed.Also speaking, the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency,
Honourable Pete Ibida, observed that tourism remains the main source of revenue generation for most African and European countries, urging the state Government to rehabilitate the cave to help boost the revenue profile of the State.The member representing Anaocha Two Constituency, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu, also stressed the need for the State government to diversify into tourism to attract foreign exchange to and ease pressure on forex. Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, expressed confidence that Governor Obiano will heed the call by implementing the motion.
The Majority Leader, Dr Nnamdi Okafor, while supporting the motion for adjournment, commiserated with families of those who lost their lives during an attack by unknown gunmen during a burial ceremony in Ebenebe, Awka North Council Area.
