
Anambra State government has consoled the people of Ihiala over the fire which destroyed their major market yesterday.
In a statement made available through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C.Don Adinuba, the traditional ruler of Ihiala, alongside the President General of Ihiala Progress Union and Governor Willie Obiano have decried the loss of means of livelihood of the people of Ihiala and residents.
The fire which gutted buildings and market stalls has been described by Governor Willie Obiano as a disaster, especially in the prevailing economic condition in the country.
The governor promised that a panel would be set up to determine the cause of the fire and make suggestions on how to prevent possible reoccurences. He also said that his administration would seek to complete the establishment of a fire service in town but also said that access roads will be created in the marjet to make it easy for trucks to move into the market freely in case of fire outbreak.
Governor Obiano also stated that the state government would work with the Ihiala Progress Union, the Igwe in Council, the Ihiala Local Government, and other stakeholers to provide a befitting market for the people.
He equally praised the Ihiala youth for fighting the fire before the firefighters arrived.
