
The Anambra’s states Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs Lady Ndidi Mezue on Monday 30th November 2020 intervened in an extreme case of child abuse at Abagana, Njikoka LGA, where a six year old child, Miss Amanda was rescued from an abusive foster mother Mrs Agatha Uba.

Mrs Agatha, a Thirty Nine year old farmer and Petty trader from Awo Idemili, Osu, LGA of Imo State who resides at Adagbe Village Abagana with her husband and three other children which she has confessed to have illegally adopted from different sources here in the State as she is yet to have her own biological child.

Speaking after interrogating the abusive foster mother, The Honorable Commissioner explained that the rescue was made possible following complaints by concerned citizens who reported the maltreatment, starvation and abuse at the child department of ministry.

According to Lady Mezue, she explained that her ministry deployed a team from the ministry to Abagana in other to rescue the remaining children even as she assured to make sure the matter gets as thorough investigation to ascertain the sources where the children were adopted while prosecution of all those involved by the appropriate Authority follows suit.

In following due process of the law, the matter has been reported to Police Area Command, Awka for descriptive investigation and prosecution.
