Anambra Youth Ministry Partners UNDP On Youths Development

Anambra State Ministry of Youth Development says it is partnering the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on youth business financing programmes.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, disclosed this when he received the UNDP team in his office at the ministry.

He said the arrangement aims at empowering the youths with creative and innovative ideas that offer solutions to society’s challenges, while the youths would benefit by earning money and ending poverty.

The Commissioner further emphasized that the program would make them relevant in the society, take them out of the streets, thereby, curbing crimes and criminalities. “They can help develop others and pull them out of poverty, they can send their pregnant wives to access health care (achieving SDGs 3), they can at least send their Children to basic School (achieving SDGs 4)”.

He described Gov. Chukwuma Soludo as a youth friendly governor who, through the ministry, has achieved good results in empowering 5000 youths through the 1 Youth 2 Skills Solution programme as a pilot phase.

He added that other programmes like the Solution Job-Kikstart initiative, Solution Innovation District (SID) and Solution Sports Initiative were arranged to close the gap between job seekers and employers, while building the capacity of the youths in the state.

Speaking, the South East UNDP Focal Person, Mrs. Chiwetalu Okosi, said that the the programme is to fish out innovative minds from rural communities, smart and innovative businesses, adding that the programme is for the educated and non educated.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Engr. Martin Agbili, the Management Team of the Ministry, UNDP State Focal Person SDGs, Chioma Ezechukwu and the UNDP Consultant, Mr. Chinyerem Ogbuagu.

Others are the President of ASATU Youth Wing, Mr. Kenneth Okoli, Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, Mr. Emeka Obi, Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth wing, Anambra State Chapter, Former Managing Director National Light, Mr. Chuks Nnabuife and Student Union Government representatives.
