Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the detention of ex-Sokoto governor and senator Aminu Tambuwal by the EFCC, calling it a politically motivated attempt by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to weaken the opposition ahead of 2027.
Tambuwal, a key member of the ADC opposition coalition, was taken into custody on Monday over alleged N189 billion cash withdrawals in violation of money laundering laws.
Atiku accused the government of weaponising anti-corruption agencies to pressure opposition figures into joining the ruling APC, warning that such tactics threaten democracy and risk turning Nigeria into a one-party state.
