Anambra State Government says phase one of the Awka Stadium will be completed by end of December, this year.
Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Honourable Tony Oli, who disclosed this at a round table with members of the Governor’s Media Office, also revealed that the Awka Stadium has attained sixty percent development.
The Sports Development Commission Chairman during the tour of the project, said with the completion of the first phase in December, the stadium will immediately begin to host certain sports events.
According to him, Track and field facilities, football pitch, floodlights, score board, and the remodelled existing pavilion are captured in the first phase.
Honourable Oli also assured of the quality of the facility in line with Governor Willie Obiano’s principle of maintaining high standards.
He hinted that the stadium is being handled by a FIFA approved contractor, adding that the turf is not synthetic or total grass as It is hybrid.
He pointed out that it is just like what they have at FC Porto stadium, adding that they are giving Anambra a modern playing field.
The Chairman further informed that expansion of sitting pavilion and indoor games facilities will form the focus of phase two development.
Reacting to the development, some sports analysts described the gesture as a Christmas gift to youths in the State.
