Vandals have severely damaged two critical towers along the 330kV Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines, plunging parts of Kano and Kaduna into darkness.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported the destruction of towers T133 and T136, disrupting electricity supply to the North-West. The issue was first identified when one transmission line tripped, followed by another.

In response, TCN has engaged local vigilante groups to enhance security around the affected area.

TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah stated that the damage appears to be a deliberate act of vandalism, prompting a coordinated effort with security forces to safeguard the infrastructure.

To address the emergency, TCN has deployed a new restoration system and is temporarily using the 330kV Kaduna–Jos line to provide power. TCN urged the communities to help protect these vital assets, as the impact of such vandalism affects everyone. Investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
