Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for shooting down a Nigerian fighter jet which went missing earlier this week.

The terrorist group made this claim in a video released on a Boko Haram social media channel on Friday, showing one of the militants standing on what the group claims is the wreckage of the jet; which shows the Nigerian flag and number NAF 475 on its fuselage.

The Nigeria air force had earlier reported on Wednesday that an “Alpha light attack jet” was on a mission to support troops fighting militants in northeastern Borno state when it lost radar contact, and are currently in search of the plane and potential survivors.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Friday, however, dismissed the claims by the terror group.
The Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, in reaction dismissed the claim, saying that the viral video could be clips from a previous incident.

He pointed out that the video was fraught with inconsistencies that established it was fake.
