Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has urged members of the Nigerian Army (NA) to supplement their military efforts with prayers for the Nigerian Army (NA)’s success in its operational engagements and the corporate survival of Nigeria as one indivisible entity in the face of current security challenges plaguing the country.
The Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2023 Interdenominational Church Service was held on Sunday, at the Mogadishu Military Cantonment in Abuja.
The NA started celebrating its 160th year of existence at the beginning of last week. The NA was founded in 1867 when 18 men who became known as the Glover Hausas of the Royal Navy came together to build the powerful force that it is today.
According to Gen. Lagbaja, the NA continues to be a force to be reckoned with in Africa and throughout the world.
He pointed out that the Interdenominational Church Service being is one of a number of events planned for all NA formations and units to celebrate the NA’s founding as a sign of racial harmony and integration. It also gives people the chance to pray and supplicate to God Almighty on behalf of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the entire country.
He said that the road has not been easy since the Nigerian Army in the course of keeping the country together, has fought a civil war, engaged in a number of military operations, and combats terrorism, insurgency, and other crimes around the nation and has participated in peacekeeping and peace enforcement missions.
He said that men of the Nigerian Army have shed blood, piled up combat casualties, and seen a rise in the number of orphans and widows among them. He also stated that their sacrifices are made out of love for God, people, and our nation.
He advised every member of the NA to consider the security issues and remember them in their prayers, certain that God Almighty would grant the NA and the Nigerian Armed Forces success in their endeavors.
