It has been accusation and counter-accusation between the Federal Government through the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige and the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
Senator Chris Ngige has faulted the rejection of the Memorandum of Action (MoA) signed on Wednesday 31,2021 by the president of NARD, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi.
In a statement made available through his media office on Saturday, Ngige said that NARD made some of their demands in ignorance while also condemning disowning the MoA duly negotiated as never done before in the Labour Union.
He also dismissed the allegation that doctors in the public health system were not insured as government has paid N13.3 billion to 13 insurance companies and brokerage firms to administer. He explained that the insurance, which runs for a year, only expired in March and that the new payment is currently being processed .
He concluded that there is a group life insurance for every health worker , including the doctors and said it was dishonest for anyone to make a contrary claim.
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in its reply viewed the misinformation by the Minster on a live tv interview on Friday as a hate speech capable of bringing down the health system in Nigeria and worsening the healthcare delivery .
The president of NMA, Professor Innocent Ujah called on the government to prioritize and improve the healthcare delivery to Nigerians and also improve the welfare of Medical practitioners and other health workers.
The Strike which the National Association of Resident Doctors began on 1st April and is in its 5th day and will hopefully convene the negotiation with federal government on Tuesday.
