Climate Change : 450 Waste – prenuers Certified In Awka

The National Environmental Standards Regulations and Enforcement Agency – NESREA, has called for collective action in the drive to promote clean and healthy environment across the country.
The Anambra State Coordinator of NESREA, Mr. Penile Jack, made the call in Awka during the Graduation and Presentation of Certificates to Four hundred and fifty trainees of Chikason Plastic Recycling Hub Waste Value Chain Training Project, which is a waste -prenuership training platform.
The trainees made up of 2023 and 2024 batches were from Awka, Onitsha and Umuahia Centres.
Mr. Jack said the training provided the participants the knowledge and skills for proper environmental management and protection for healthy living.
Also speaking, the Training Coordinator of the Project and former Managing Director of Anambra State Waste Management Authority. – ASWAMA, Mr Amechi Akora, said the project was designed to mitigate climate change, promote awareness on environmental issues to enable people understand how their way of life impact on the environment and attendant consequences.
He further stressed that proper environmental management will promote good health and sustainability.
Mr Akora explained that the graduands cut across all strata of the society including scavengers, school leavers, awaiting corps members, professionals from different fields and retirees from public and civil service.
He urged them to practice what they learnt in caring for the environment while grooming their career to develop value out of waste and disclosed that they will be organized into hubs of collectors and aggregators and linked to off – takers.
In her presentation, Miss Funmilayo Adeniyi of Department of Environmental Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, pointed out that waste value chain has huge business opportunities, adding that condition of the environment affects the economy and health of the society.
According to Miss Adeniyi, the training prepared the graduands to explore opportunities in environmental issues to protect the future and earn a living.
In their separate contributions, the Director, Marketing
Starich Recycling Technology Limited, Engineer Olawe Olaoluwa,
and Secretary General, Anambra State, Waste Recycling Association, Chief Ugo – Akpe Onwuka, stressed the need for synergy and collaboration to achieve the set goals.
The occasion featured presentation of certificates to the graduands.
