In a move to boost healthcare in the region, Enugu State has announced plans to construct a 250-bed international hospital.
The Enugu International Hospital will be an ultramodern quaternary health facility aimed at reversing the flow of medical tourism and making Enugu a top destination for business, investment, and tourism.

Announced at the end of the State Executive Council meeting, Health Commissioner Professor Emmanuel Obi said the hospital will provide advanced medical services and serve as a center for medical research and training.

Professor Obi said that the hospital will offer specialized and advanced levels of medical care that are currently not widely available in Nigeria. It will be located in the heart of Enugu city, making it easily accessible from the international airport, eliminating the need for residents to travel abroad for healthcare.

The meeting also addressed the rising concern of Mpox disease, formerly known as Monkeypox, with the government scaling up awareness campaigns to prevent its spread.
