FAAN arrests 21 touts, others at Lagos Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has apprehended 21 individuals, including touts, illegal foreign exchange dealers, hawkers, and scavengers at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

This was made known in a statement released on Sunday by Mr Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, in Lagos.

He said that for the past weeks, the Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF) and the Aviation Security Crime Investigation and Intelligence (AVSEC-CII) Unit has been conducting raids on miscreants around the airport .

The result of the raids was the arrests of cable thieves and apprehension of other miscreants

He also stated that on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) JMTF and AVSEC-CII raided the ITZ 1 and 2 landside, the carparks and the airport access roads.

Following that,a total of 21 persons including touts, illegal foreign exchange dealers, hawkers and scavengers were arrested.

This action is part of FAAN’s initiative to clean up the airport environment from unauthorized activities.

He stated that the suspects have been handed over to the police for further action.

Mr Yakubu-Funtua assured that FAAN remains dedicated to ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of all airport users and warns those with no legitimate business at airports to stay away to avoid arrest.
