The Federal Government has expanded healthcare access to over 2.4 million vulnerable Nigerians in the past year through the Vulnerable Groups Fund. Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, made this announcement during a ministerial oversight meeting on Friday in Abuja.
The initiative, aimed at reducing maternal mortality and improving child health, highlights the government’s commitment to affordable healthcare for the poor. Pate revealed that an additional four million enrollees now benefit from the fund, ensuring they can access vital medical services.
The government has also allocated resources to provide emergency obstetric care and repair obstetric fistulas, affecting many women due to childbirth complications. Collaboration with health organizations is providing affordable treatment and empowering women from vulnerable communities.
Pate emphasized ongoing efforts to train healthcare workers and strengthen the system, expressing confidence in reducing maternal mortality and improving health outcomes nationwide.
