The Federal Government is set to appeal the judgment of an Oyo State High Court which awarded 20 billion naira in damages, in favour of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, against the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Department of State Service (DSS).
This ruling was in respect of a suit filed by Igboho’s lawyer, Yomi Alliyu, challenging the invasion of his house in Ibadan on July 1 by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Justice Ladiran Akintola, who delivered the ruling had described DSS’ action as “arbitrary aggression and prejudices” against Igboho, also stating that the applicant had demonstrated to the court that his fundamental right to personal liberty, right to life and blocking of his account amounted to violation of his fundamental rights.
Besides the N20billion awarded as exemplary and aggravated damage in favour of the applicant, he had also awarded a N2million cost also in favour of the applicant for instituting the case.
The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, while speaking to the press on Friday however, announced that the court judgment will be appealed and efforts are already being made to commence the process of the appeal.
