Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has ended the practice of retaining retired permanent secretaries on contract in the state’s civil service, a move aimed at promoting career progression for lower-level employees.
Speaking at the swearing-in of six new Permanent Secretaries in Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of allowing fresh faces to take on these roles, warning that any misconduct would lead to dismissal.
Among those sworn in was Mrs. Anthonia Iyaye-Ekise, a prominent broadcaster now transitioning into a permanent secretarial role. Following the ceremony, the new appointees were presented with official vehicles.
Additionally, Governor Fubara mandated that Information and Communications Technology (ICT) staff in the state must obtain certification from the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) for promotion. This directive, announced during a dinner for the Nigeria Computer Society’s 2024 International Conference delegates, aligns with the state’s push to enhance service delivery through technology integration.
