The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has blamed the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country on an inadequate distribution network in the downstream oil and gas sector.

Speaking at the PENGASSAN Energy and Labour Summit in Abuja, the union’s president, Comrade Festus Osifo, criticized Nigeria’s reliance on a truck-based distribution system, calling it outdated and inefficient for a nation of its size. He highlighted that this system is vulnerable to disruptions like bad roads and flooding, leading to recurring fuel shortages.

Osifo urged the government to upgrade and strengthen the distribution value chain to ensure a more reliable fuel supply across the country.
