Ghana records new variant cases of covid-19

Report has it that nearly 33 countries have reported cases of the new variant of Covid-19 which was first recorded in the United Kingdom.

Ghana is one of of the countries that have recorded the new variant .
According to President Akufo Addo, the new strain was recorded among passengers at the Kotoka International Airport following tests conducted on some travellers coming into the country. The travellers have since been isolated. President Akufo Addo also stated that work is ongoing to determine the extent of spread of the new variants in the general population.

In Ghana, as of 1 January 2020, of the 118, 278 tests carried out on passengers at the Kotoka International Airport, 712 results were positive.
To that affect, the president said that the developments call for a strengthening of the existing protocols to prevent the spread of the new variant in Ghana as measures will be put in place in addition to existing guidelines on international travel for Covid-19 in Ghana.

Schools in Ghana were reopened fully on Monday after several months of closure. The country’s case count has also seen an upsurge in recent times with a daily record of an average of 200 cases.
