Governor Willie Obiano has been extolled for seriously putting into consideration, the interest and comfort of persons with disabilities in the construction of the Anambra International Cargo and Passengers Airport at Umueri, Anambra East Council Area.

The Disability Community made its feelings known during the members’ tour of the Airport, on Saturday, 11th December 2021.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Disability Matters, Barrister Chuks Ezenwuzie, applauded Governor Obiano for always having the interest of persons with disabilities at heart, noting that the Governor has continued to demonstrate an unrivalled passion for them, and is leaving enduring legacies that future generations will be proud of.

Barrister Ezenwuzie hinted that Governor Obiano hardly does anything or sets up any committee without appointing members of the disability community as members to protect their interests.

The Special Adviser further explained that he appointed one of them, member of the Airport Committee to ensure that the Airport is physically-challenged-friendly and also meets international standards.
He made it clear that having travelled around the world, Anambra Airport is at the forefront of accessibility features, like the Wheelchair ramp, the elevators, doors with Braille marth, the installation of lights that tell the happening in the airport among others are all in place, and also meet requirements of what is obtainable in advanced countries.

Barrister Ezenwuzie assured that the standard was met in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities and also disclosed that the features are all in compliance with the features of State Disability Rights Law signed by Governor Willie Obiano.

While eulogising the governor for his continued love and fatherly care for persons with disabilities, he seized the opportunity to remind them that COVID-19 is real, hence the need for all to maintain safety measures to stay alive.
In their separate speeches, Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities, Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, and Comrade Chidimma Ajemba, expressed satisfaction with the disability features put in place at the airport to accommodate persons with disabilities, describing the airport and its facilities as disability-friendly.
Responding, the State Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, who is the Project Engineer, while conducting members of the group round the Ram, welcomed them at the Airport on behalf of the Governor.
Commissioner Ifejiofor pointed out that persons with disabilities were taken into consideration since the conception of the project especially in the design, and thanked the Governor and the Special Adviser, Barr Ezenwuzie for their efforts.
He maintained that no matter the situation, persons with disabilities can access the airport from the ground floor to the last floor, upstairs.
Commissioner Ifejiofor also praised Governor Willie Obiano for the timely delivery of the project, describing him as a compassionate man
