Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has again warned that delay is often dangerous in the management of Covid-19 cases.

Governor Obiano who gave the warning in a Statewide Broadcast on the update on the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, advised people who show symptoms of the deadly virus to report their conditions early as it increases their chances of survival

He said following Active Search Campaign across the state, a total of 302 samples have so far been collected, out of which 230 results have been released, while 72 results are still pending with the NCDC testing center.

Governor Obiano further informed that out of the 230 results that have been released, 53 results returned positive, 13 patients have been discharged, 9 people have passed away, while 31 cases are still active.

He said in the meantime, 7 patients are in their  Protective Care Center, receiving medical attention.

The Governor noted that the medical status of 7 of the 9 patients who died of Covid-19 in the state was confirmed after a postmortem test on them, showing that they did not go to the  Protective Care Center for professional management.

The governor informed that almost 90 per cent of the people that have died from Covid-19 in in state were aged from 60 years and above, urging people who fall into the age category who are said to have what the experts call co-mobility, to maintain high level of vigilance to minimize chances of their exposure to the virus.

He also emphasized that the pandemic does not select its victims based on age, adding that one of the victims of the virus in the state was only 24 years old,  which is why everyone must maintain a high level of vigilance to survive the scourge.

Governor Obiano reminded the citizens that Anambra State Covid-19 and Other Dangerous Diseases Prevention and Eradication Law has come into effect, which makes it an offence for anyone to appear in public without wearing a face mask.

He called on all to observe the law diligently to enhance their chances of surviving the onslaught of the pandemic, warning also that anyone who flouts the law will be brought to judgment. The governor assured that state government has made adequate arrangements to contain the virus in Anambra State and advised everyone to remain calm and  not to panic.
