Gunmen on Thursday night burnt down a police station in Orlu, Imo State, also killing a police inspector in the process.
According to the police spokesperson in the state, Mike Abattam, the incident occurred at about 9.35 p.m on Thursay, when the attackers threw explosives and petrol bombs on the roof of the police station – damaging the roof and causing a fire, which also affected some of the vehicles at the parking lot.
Adding that the command’s tactical teams engaged the gunmen, and successfully neutralized them after a gun duel, he stated that one pump action gun and two locally made double barrel pistols were recovered from 3 of the gunmen, while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds.
Speaking further, the spokesperson urged the public to report anyone with bullet wounds to the police, also urging the Orsu community to assist the police with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the escaped bandits.
