Healthcare workers in Nasarawa State are raising concerns over the low turnout of girls aged 9 to 14 for the Human Papilloma Virus vaccination.
At a media training in Lafia, State Health Educator Ishaya Amegwa revealed that only 2,158 girls received the vaccine between January and February 2025, despite awareness campaigns.
Lafia recorded the lowest turnout, while Obi LGA led with 423 vaccinations.
Amegwa stressed that HPV, transmitted mainly through sexual contact, poses serious health risks and urged parents to vaccinate their daughters.
Media professionals were also called upon to intensify public awareness.
The vaccine is free, safe, and available at government health centers.
