Herdsmen Attack Bayelsa Community, Kill Traditional Chief
The invasion on Monday night was over a fishing settlement popularly known as “Lake Sam” in the area.
Report says suspected herdsmen on Monday night, attacked Okordia Akumoni community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, killing a community leader, Chief Bob Wilson and injuring a few other persons.
According to the report, the invasion was over a fishing settlement in the area popularly known as “Lake Sam”.
It was gathered that the killing of the deputy village chief created tension in the community.
It was learnt that most of the people injured were fishermen doing their businesses in the area and planting Okra, pepper and other agricultural produce.
It had earlier been reported that last week, a farmer was hacked to death at the neigbouring Zarama community before the latest invasion of Okordia.
The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat, who onfirmed the incident to reporters, said the police had recovered the body of the murdered Chief, while investigation was ongoing.
The PPRO said, “Suspected herdsmen killed one man in the fishing camp there, we were able to recover the corpse, he died as a result of the bullet wound as was observed in his body”.
