The National President of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria Dr. Minnie Oseji, has appealed to the menfolk not to withhold consent for appropriate care of their wives and children.
Dr. Oseji made the call during the National Executive Council Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association In Awka.
Speaking on the topic, “Male Involvement In Maternal and Child Health’,’ the medical expert also called for their understanding and support for family planning including the male options.
She advocated seeking the services of trained marriage counsellors to talk to when experiencing misunderstanding in their marriages.
According to Dr Oseji, coupes must not resort to physical violence as it contravences several state, national and international laws.
She enjoined them to understand what consensual sex means as opposed to rape which is viewed as crime, and further urged men to take care of their health to live long to enjoy their families.
The Medical expert made a passionate appeal for men to do Prostatic Specific Antigen screening test for early detection of prostate cancer from the age of 40 for early treatment.
The National President who also doubles as the Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Health, also advised men to observe road safety both as drivers and passengers especially this Christmas period when when roads tend to be too busy.
She warned against early child marriage and called for the education of the girl child before marriage.
Dr. Oseji stressed the importance of health insurance policy for themselves and for their families, equally advocated men’s preparation for retirement and after life.
