IGP Urges Nigerians to Report Extortions by Officers, Issues Strong Warning Against Name Dropping For Corrupt Practices
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has urged Nigerians to promptly report any incidents of extortion or fraudulent activities involving Police officers.
IGP Egbetokun who urged anyone with such complaint or report to also provide detailed information to facilitate thorough investigations that will lead to severe sanctions for erring officers.
He said this is part efforts to maintain the highest standards of integrity within the Nigeria Police Force.
The Force Public Relations Officers, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who made known in a release, said the general public may reach the Nigeria Police via social media platforms and phone numbers 08057000001, 08057000002, 08057000003, and 07056792065.
The Force PRO said that the IGP sternly condemned any form of extortion and, therefore, issued a clear warning to all officers against using or dropping his name for such nefarious activities.
The IGP who expressed deep concern, emphasized that such actions tarnish the reputation of his person and the Police Force, thereby eroding public trust.
The IGP stressed that any officer found guilty of leveraging his name for fraudulent activities or extortion will face severe disciplinary measures.
He then urged officers to uphold transparency and professionalism, reiterating that the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force is at stake if such is not checked.
IGP Egbetokun further appealed the public to exercise caution and report any attempts to exploit his name for fraudulent activities or extortion, most especially in the investigation of cases.
He highlighted the crucial role citizens play in collaboration with the Police Force to maintain a high standard of conduct and eliminate corruption within the system.
IGP Egbetokun reassured the public of the Force’s commitment towards checking misconduct as well as ensure accountability at all levels.
