Igbos all over the world have been encouraged to embrace and invest in agriculture as a way of growing and sustaining the Nigerian economy.
This was contained in a speech made by the traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Awka South Council Area , Anambra State, HRM Igwe Joel Maduadichie Egwuonwu, during his official new yam festival at the Igwe’s palace, Saturday,25th September 2021.
Igwe Egwuonwu who is the Ezeudo the second of Umuawulu said that agriculture is a key factor in the economic development of any state or nation.
He called on the three tiers of government to create agricultural programs and enabling environments that would make it more lucrative and interesting among youths.
The royal father also stated that the new yam celebration was a period the community gives thanks to God for bountiful harvests.
He expressed his gratitude to the people of Umuawulu for their hard work and positive contributions to food production in the state.
Speaking to Kpakpando correspondents during the event, Chief Jude Nwankwo, described the festival as a strong bond that has continued to promote peace, unity and hard work among the people of Umuawulu. He said the community has an empowerment program that was aimed at encouraging farmers in the town.
Also in a speech, a philanthropist, High Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Nwankwo, enjoined the people of Umuawulu to continue to live in peace and harmony for the continued socio-economic development of the town.
Highlights of the occasion were cultural dance troops that held the guests spellbound with their skilful displays and masquerade displays.
The Igwe and the members of his cabinet received top dignitaries and friends of the community that graced the event.
