In continued preparation for the November 6 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Officials of the Independent National Election (INEC) on Friday, the 29th of October, met with leaders of various political parties in the state to quash all lingering issues ahead of the polls.
Speaking at the meeting held in Abuja, Chairman of the commission Prof. Mahmood Yakubu disclosed that Anambra has 5,720 polling units, but added however, that of the number stated, 86 polling units (1.5 percent) have no single voter, and as such, voting will not hold there.
He also noted that despite 894 polling units (15.6 percent) having only between 1 and 49 voters, voting will proceed unhindered at such locations.
Expressing the commission’s commitment to work with stakeholders, the INEC boss said that all non-sensitive materials had been moved to the 21 Local Government Areas of the State and the Central Bank of Nigeria was handling the delivery of sensitive materials on schedule.
He also urged political parties to present their agents to be on the ground for the inspection of the materials at the CBN.
