It was fun and thrilling football entertainment with lots of talents on display at the just concluded Awka North and South Unity Cup. The Unity Cup was sponsored by Hon Chinedu Sam Onwuaso, member representing Awka North and South in the Federal House of Representatives.
On Sunday, January 9th, Isuaniocha, team , who started and ended the tournament unbeaten, defeated Okpuno team 2:0 to win the maiden edition of Awka North and South football competition. Henry Ofojee , who plays for NNL side Udala FC, scored the two goals that secured their victory, won the man of the match award.
On Friday , 8th January, Mbaukwu team defeated Amanuke team with 3:1 to secure the third place.
The final match of the tournament was kicked off by Bar Nnamdi Raphael the DG of the tournament. The vice chancellor of Paul University, Venerable Prof Obiora Nwosu honored the final with other dignitaries.
Speaking to Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Hon Sam Onwuaso, represented by Bar Nnamdi Raphael maintained that the scouts on ground have picked the most talented players for professional career and promised to introduce female football competition such as table tennis, volley ball in subsequent edition.
He also commended the organizing committee for the job well done.
Many players were awarded prizes with the winner prize money of One million naira to Isuaniocha second place of 500,000 went to Okpuno while 300,000 third place money went to Mbaukwu.
