JAMB Clarifies Admission Criteria

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has reaffirmed that high UTME scores alone do not guarantee university admission. In a statement on Sunday, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin clarified that admissions are based on a comprehensive ranking system, considering O’level results, UTME, and post-UTME scores.

This comes amid concerns from parents and candidates accusing universities of bias. JAMB cited a case where a candidate with 345 UTME ranked 86th, while the university could only admit 68 on merit.

The board urged parents to understand the ranking process and advised aggrieved candidates to seek clarification via its ticketing platform.

Meanwhile, JAMB is prosecuting a university staff member for admission fraud and investigating four others. The board said it aims to maintain its zero-tolerance policy for admission infractions.
