Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos state has cited the lack of a formal operational base as a reason for not integrating Amotekun Corps into the security architecture in Lagos .
The governor made this known on Monday on a television chat where he outlined his administration’s achievements in the last two years.
Speaking on the concept of Amotekun , he said that it is for the corps to go into the forest and focus on border patrols. The operations of Amotekun, he also said , is peculiar to each state. He noted that unlike some areas where kidnappers hide in the forest, Lagos state is battling with challenges bordering on cultism, traffic robbery and other crimes, which to solve them, one needs to thing globally and act locally .
He also said that Amotekun is about intelligence gathering , seeking for information inside the communities that the real security operatives will deal with.
Sanwo Olu also stated that insecurity is thriving in the country because there is no agreement concerning State Police. He said that Amotekun and Neighbourhood Watch are reflections of state police and if members are properly trained, they will become stronger and challenges around kidnapping and other crimes will stop. He reiterated that kidnappings and other crimes currently witnessed in the country can be nipped in the bud if there is a state functional state police in the all the states.
