Monsignor Okpalaibekwe Celebrates 50 Years of Priesthood
In a momentous celebration of faith and dedication, Very Rev Monsignor Dr Ferdinand OkpalaIbekwe marked 50 remarkable years of priesthood. He was ordained on 27th April 1974. Not only is he a symbol of unwavering devotion, but he also holds the esteemed title of being the first indigenous priest of Uga town.
The jubilant occasion took place on Sunday, 28th April 2024 at the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Uga, where congregants gathered to honor Monsignor OkpalaIbekwe’s lifelong commitment to serving the community and spreading the message of love and compassion.
Leading the ceremony was Peter Ebele Cardinal Okpaleke ( The Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia), whose presence added to the reverence and significance of the event. Cardinal Okpaleke heartfelt words and blessings resonated throughout the church, highlighting Monsignor Okpalaibekwe’s contributions to the spiritual growth and unity of Uga town.
During the mass, tributes poured in from parishioners, colleagues, and well-wishers, expressing gratitude for Monsignor Okpalaibekwe’s guidance, wisdom, and selfless service over the decades. His humility, kindness, and unwavering faith have touched the lives of many, making him a beloved figure in the hearts of the faithful.
“In their separate interviews, HRH Igwe Chidi Stephen Ezenwugo (The Obi of Uga) joyfully described the first indigenous priest of Uga town as a blessing to the community. He portrayed him as a peaceful man and prayed that God would grant safe journeys to people coming from far and near to their destinations.
On the other hand, Rev. Fr Ifeanyichukwu Innocent Umezika, based in Canada, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for the life of Monsignor Maduaburochukwu Okpalaibekwe during an online interview.
Fr. Umezika joyfully said that Monsignor Okpalaibekwe paved the way for other priests to join the priesthood.
Rev. Fr Umezika described him as God-sent to Uga town and to Christendom. He also prayed for Monsignor’s longevity and good health.”
As the ceremony concluded, Monsignor Okpalaibekwe expressed his deep gratitude to God, his fellow clergy members, and the community for their unwavering support throughout his journey in priesthood. His legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire generations to come, reflecting the true essence of a devoted servant of God.
