Anambra State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, Extra-Judicial Killings and Other Related Matters, has restated its commitment towards ensuring that victims get justice.
Chairman of the panel, Justice Veronica Umeh, made the promise during its sitting at the ASATU Hall, Government House, Awka.
Justice Umeh stressed the need for petitioners to always come forward and truthfully present their complaints to the panel whenever they are called to enable it deliver on its mandate.
One of the petitioners, who spoke to the press, Mr Chukwudi Nwabugwu from Ihiala, narrated how his son was unlawfully arrested in 2014 by the officials of the defunct SARS and has not returned since then
He appealed to the State government to give his family the justice they deserve.
Another petitioner and a mother of six from Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area, Mrs Ebele Sunday-Obidigbo, narrated how her husband was illegally arrested by the SARS operatives in 2011 and later died in the process.
She also called on the panel to do everything possible to give her late husband justice.
However, one of the petitioners, Lady Nnenna, withdrew her petition.
The petitioner who was absent during the proceeding, withdrew the petition she filed on the twenty-eighth October, 2020, against the defunct SARS and Nigeria Police Force, through her council, Mr C.L. Okafor, for some undisclosed reasons.
