Operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), have rescued seven victims suspected of being trafficked to Iraq for exploitation.
The operation, carried out in Zamaru near Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, followed credible intelligence about unusual activities at a hotel.
NAPTIP’s spokesperson, Vincent Adekoye, said on Sunday that the agency has been cracking down on trafficking networks using Abuja as a transit point.
Investigations revealed that six victims were recruited from Lagos and one from Delta State under false promises of caregiving jobs.
NAPTIP’s Director-General, Binta Adamu Bello, warned that traffickers and their accomplices will face prosecution as efforts continue to dismantle the network.
