In a recent operation along the Aba-Owerri Expressway, officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted five pregnant teenage girls suspected to be victims of child trafficking. These girls were apprehended while being relocated from Naze in Owerri to Ikenegbu in Imo State.
NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi disclosed this information in a statement.
The victims, named Chioma Emmanuel, Uma Faith, Divine Adimonye, Opara Gift, and Amarachi Mbata, were rescued and have stated that they did not know the men responsible for impregnating them. They will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.
In addition to this operation, NDLEA operatives also thwarted attempts to export methamphetamine and skunk through various channels. This includes the interception of 7.50 kilograms of skunk concealed inside crayfish mixed with dry bitter leaf at the Lagos airport. Other drug seizures and arrests were made across different locations in Nigeria.
Chairman and CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), commended the efforts of the agency’s commands across the country in intensifying drug control efforts and conducting sensitization activities. He urged them not to relent in their efforts.
