
Newly Elected President-General of Umuoji Community Assassinated In His Home
Yet-to-be-identified gunmen have reportedly killed the newly elected President-General of Umuoji Community in Idemili North LGA, Chief Silas Onyima.
The details of the incident are still sketchy, but it was gathered that the hoodlums, numbering about fifteen, invaded his home on Friday evening, 24th February, 2024, and shot him dead thereby causing serious tension in the Community.
A source said that the newly elected deceased President-General had recently presided over one election.
It was also learnt that he had called for a meeting scheduled for the following morning, Saturday, before he was assassinated.
According to the source, after waiting for so long for the meeting and did not see him, some of those waiting then, decided to visit his house when they saw that he had been killed.
“It was then discovered that he was killed on Friday evening when some masked men went to his house and shot him dead”, the source said.
When contacted, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the report, saying that police operatives have been deployed to the area.
Ikenga said that when police got to the scene, they found the man in a pool of blood.
He further explained that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue with the help of some of the family members, adding that they are also working with some eyewitnesses and community members to help track the perpetrators as investigation is ongoing.
The PPRO said, “The Police are aware of the development. We got the information and we have deployed our men to the area. Our men went to the scene when the information got to us, they found the man in a pool of blood.
The body of the deceased has been recovered and deposited at the morgue with the help of some of the family members. We are also working with some eyewitnesses and Community members to help track the perpetrators as investigation is ongoing.”
