Nigeria @ 65, tale of woe: “Only way to fix Nigeria is for governors to fix States, LGs” – Paul Chukwuma

Nigeria on Wednesday, 1st October, 2025, marked her 65th Independence Anniversary.

However, there is not much to show for it despite being blessed with abundant human and natural resources.

Assessing the journey so far, in his independence day message to Ndi Anambra, the candidate of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, in the November 8 governorship election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, lamented the slow-motion development style plaguing the nation.

Sir Paul posited that for the country to achieve comparable growth, governors should genuinely take the responsibility of fixing the states and local government areas.

He urged Nigerians, and specifically, Ndi Anambra, to make clear demands from their governor, assuring that if given the responsibility to govern the state, the YPP, will fix Nigeria by fixing Anambra State and making it work for the people.

While wishing Ndi Anambra and residents Happy Independence Day, the Governorship hopeful, Chukwuma, aka Onye Chi na-azo, assured that all will be well.

His words: “Today, Nigeria marks a landmark 65 years post independence, still fundamentally troubled by the burden of development

“But we can no longer continue to discuss Nigeria’s challenges in abstract terms, neither should we continue to discuss Nigeria’s shortfalls in general terms. To solve the Nigerian puzzle, we must first properly diagnose the issue at stake.

“To this end, the greatest challenge to Nigeria’s development is our sub-nationals. Development can not be achieved without clear fundamentals at the state and in our local governments.

“Unfortunately, in places like Anambra State, we haven’t gotten it right. The 21 LGAs in Anambra State today are merely symbolic rather than a tier of government that derived its powers from the people.

“I am now more convinced than ever that the time has come for Nigerians, and specifically, Ndi Anambra, to make clear demands from their governor. The only way to fix Nigeria is for governors to fix our States and our LGAs.

“For us in the YPP, with the mandate of the people of Anambra State, we shall fix Nigeria by fixing Anambra State and making it work for the people. Our LGAs shall have full access to their funds, and we shall ensure regular and credible elections into the LGAs. We shall govern Anambra with the rule of law, and we shall strengthen all government institutions for sustainability in governance.
