The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Anambra State Chapter, has called for review of all the current Child related Laws in the country with a view to strengthening them for stiffer penalties and speedy Justice.
In a Press Release signed by its Chairman, Comrade Stella Igboka, to mark this year’s “Day of The African Child”, NAWOJ regretted that most Child abuse cases are being frustrated and neglected, and called on relevant enforcement authorities, like the judiciary, the legislature and security Agencies to brace to the challenge.
It noted especially the rampant and increase in rape, and advocated stiffer penalties including capital punishment to serve as deterrent.
NAWOJ also urged traditional rulers, religious and community Leaders, as well as parents, and other relevant stakeholders to intensify fight against all forms of child abuse.
The release further maintained that it was high time for parents, guidance and caregivers to take absolute responsibility by concentrating on training the child on morality, Love, and the sanctity of human life at the home front.
