NDLEA Cautions Students Against Illicit Drugs
The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has advised youths including students to run away from hard drugs in view of the consequences associated with the ugly practice.
The Principal Staff Officer, Drug Demand Reduction Unit, NDLEA, Dr Chine Thompson, gave the advice while addressing participants at this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, organized by the Anambra State Library Board in conjunction with the NDLEA at Abagana, Njikoka Council Area.
Dr. Thompson identified effects of hard drugs to include physical, psychological and sociological, which can damage body organs, cause depression and anxiety among others
She also noted that this can prevent them from actualizing their academic pursuit, urging parents to always monitor their children from an early stage in life.
Speaking, the Divisional Police Officer for Abagana, CSP Mathew Okafor, represented by the Divisional Crime Officer, Abagana, SP Ignatius Okafor, warned that the implications of indulging in hard drugs are enormous, and attributed most crimes committed by youths to the effects of hard drugs.
Contributing, the Director, Anambra Library Services, Dr Nkechi Udeze, regretted the damage hard drugs have caused society and explained that the programme was to sensitize and educate students on the consequences of meddling in hard drugs, and why they should avoid them entirely.
